"Nothing erodes a person's faith faster than Internet pornography."
– Josh McDowell, author, evangelist and apologist

“Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your ways.” Psalm 119:37 (ESV)

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Jesus’ words in Matthew 5:28 (ESV)

Internet Pornography

Did you know the Bible* mentions the word “eyes” more than 500 times? And “sight” close to 300 times?

Throughout Scripture, it seems the eyesone’s vision or sight, both literally and figurativelyare indispensably tied to the heart and the trajectory of one’s life. They filter, interpret, direct and communicate; yet, they can just as easily tempt, distort and lead astray.

So important are the eyes that Jesus, speaking metaphorically, said in the Gospel of Mark, “…if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell.” In essence, He was warning: “Don’t let your eyes lead you astray.” (Mark 9:47, ESV)

Fast-forward to modern culture where digital pornography addiction ― especially among children and teens ― is now at epidemic levels. In mere seconds, they can stumble across graphic and violent pornography just by clicking a button or opening an email or text.

Sadly, there’s been little media coverage on this mind-altering and devastating trend. But that doesn’t mean the problem doesn’t exist, or that it’s hopeless for those who are affected.

Case in point: Every week, Focus on the Family is contacted by hurting individuals seeking help from our licensed, Christian counselors for themselves or someone they know who has a pornography addiction.
